Fieldtrip VI

Seelow Hights: Second World War's Decisive Battle Ground (Suse/Volker)

"The Seelow Heights Memorial and Museum, together with the still visible traces of the battlefield and German and Soviet war graves, are the rare evidence of the hard fighting in the final phases of World War II on German soil.

Over 33.000 Soviet, 12.000 German, and 5.000 Polish soldiers fell in the fighting between January 31 and April 18, 1945.

The Seelower Hights Memorial and Museum sees its purpose as keeping alive the memory of the suffering endured by both soldiers and civilians during the final stages of World War II, and, from this inheritance, providing a meeting point between Germans and their eastern neighbors both for the present and the future."

This is the official text in an English booklet published by the museum; more details you will find with us, and at: http://www.kultur-in-mol.de/gedenkstaette/index.html (German only).
